Patchwork & Quilting Exhibition in the Norfolk Broads
Sew Creative Wroxham Barns Fourth Charity Patchwork & Quilting Exhibition
Sylvia Graham, owner of Wroxham Barns based business, Sew Creative, is staging her fourth charity Patchworking & Quilting Exhibition at Wroxham Barns, near Norwich, from Friday, June 13 to Sunday, June 15, 10am to 5pm daily, admission £2.50.More than 100 quilts will be on display, comprising work completed by students on Sew Creative workshops and entries into Sylvia’s quilting challenge ‘Colour My World’.
The quilting challenge has attracted submissions from all over England and even an entry from Tokyo. The Japanese quilt is from Carin Saga. Carin, who comes from Sweden, teaches English in Japan and enjoys holidays in Norfolk, where she discovered Sew Creative and became a regular supporter of the quilting challenge. To enter the challenge, quilters have to buy a specific piece of fabric, then produce a one metre square quilt or wall hanging.
All proceeds from the exhibition go to The Breast Cancer Resource Fund at the Norfolk & Norwich NHS University Hospital. This year’s raffle features two double bed patchwork quilts bequeathed by former Sew Creative student, Pauline Elms, who died from breast cancer in 2007. Raffle tickets, costing 20p are on sale now at Sew Creative.
North Country quilter, Lilian Hedley, from Chester-le-street near Durham, and award-winning Norfolk quilter, Jacquie Harvey are demonstrating throughout the exhibition.
Sylvia Graham, Sew Creative said: "Our exhibition is a fabulous showcase of our students’ creativity and the ingenuity of those who enter the quilting challenge. We have raised £16,000 so far for the Breast Cancer Resource Fund and hope that we will be able to donate several thousand pounds as a result of this year's event."
