Junior Farm Collects Award
Junior Farm Wroxham Barns was runner up in the 75,000+ visitors category in the National Farm Attractions Network Awards 2008. Eileen Calverley, Farm Manager received the award at the farm attractions’ network’s annual conference in Tamworth.“I am thrilled to have received this award from the Farm Attractions Network,” said Eileen Calverley. “Junior Farm only covers two acres and to have achieved runner up in a competition featuring large farm parks is a great tribute to all my staff who work so hard looking after our visitors and of course the animals. Our aim is to give children and families a top quality taste of the real countryside. This award is a wonderful endorsement of our efforts.”
Michael Buckby, Agricultural Business Manager, Lloyds TSB Northampton, who judged the Wroxham Barns category said: “We were very impressed with Junior Farm, it is an attractive site with excellent facilities, including a great restaurant.
The decision was really close; Ian Russell, Eileen Calverley and their staff run an impressive farm attraction.”
Gary Richardson, Chairman of the judges said: “We were bowled over by the amount of effort, commitment and passion displayed by every attraction that entered this year’s awards. The National Farm Attractions Network’s awards are a celebration of excellence; all the winners displayed a very high standard and made the judging a very difficult job!”
It is time to get hands on at Junior Farm – indoor bottle-feeding sessions with spring lambs begin at 11am on Saturday, February 14. Bottle-feeding sessions then continue daily at 11am, 1.30pm and 3.30pm.
Wroxham Barns’ lambs are all the smallest of triplets from local farms. Ewes find it difficult to look after triplets, so Junior Farm visitors who feed the lambs are helping out as surrogate mums.
Families can also enjoy the pigs, rabbits, chicks and guinea pigs, as well as feed the goats, sheep and donkeys at the farm. Admission to Junior Farm is £5.50 (under three free), open 10am to 5pm.
