Gardeners for Women for Women
TV celebrity Fern Britton is calling on Norfolk gardeners and rose enthusiasts to support her as she cycles around India this month to raise money for her favorite charity, "Women for Women", which funds medical research for better health for women and their babies. Earlier this year, Bill LeGrice Roses of Wroxham Barns created a new rose, a creamy yellow floribunda with a delightful smell, and named "Fern's Rose". Fern launched the new rose at the Hampton Court Flower Show in July and for each rose sold a donation of £1 is made to Women for Women. This is Fern's second fund-raising bicycle expedition, having toured Egypt last year. This year she will join 200 women and just one man - Professor Robert Winston, Chairman of Women for Women - who will take part in two cycle rides through the Indian countryside, starting on the 25th November. The cyclists will meet at the Taj Mahal before starting their 390 km rides.
Funds raised by Women for Women will go to train women scientists and clinicians of the highest calibre to work on major research projects at the centre of excellence at Imperial College, Hammersmith and Queen Charlotte’s Hospitals in London.
Fern’s Rose is available from Bill LeGrice Roses at Wroxham Barns, Tunstead Road, Hoveton, Norwich, Norfolk, NR12 8QU, telephone 0800 035 7673 or on their website www.rosebuddies.com
