First LeGrice Rose Festival

Wroxham Barns, near Norwich, will be awash with colour when Bill LeGrice Roses stages its first LeGrice Rose Festival on Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22, 10am to 5pm, free admission.

Julie Reinger, from BBC Look East, will officially open the festival at 10.15am on Saturday, June 21 and will present prizes. She will be at the show throughout the day.

Festival Programme
  • Rose displays by Bill LeGrice Roses, including their famed 'offbeat' colours.
  • Display of plants that can accompany roses.
  • Rose flower-arranging displays by local flower arrangers, judged by an accredited NAFAS judge.
  • Miniature Garden displays by Tunstead Primary School, judged on Saturday morning by Julie Reinger and Bill LeGrice.
  • Competition classes as follows: best hybrid tea, best floribunda, best climber and six assorted roses (apply for entry form from LeGrice Roses).
  • Saturday 21 and Sunday, June 22 at 11am, ‘The Glory of Roses’, flower arranging demonstrations by David Wright.
  • Open Single Rose competition – open to all, submit rose by 12noon on Saturday, June 21 and again Sunday, June 22; judged by Ken Grapes, former President of The Royal National Rose Society and Bill LeGrice.
  • Saturday 21 and Sunday, June 22, 2.30pm to 3.30pm, ‘Gardeners’ Question Time’ with Bill LeGrice, Vice President, The Royal National Rose Society and President of Norfolk & Norwich Horticultural Society and Cromer Horticultural Society and Martin Davey, Head of Horticulture, Easton College, EDP Gardening Doctor and BBC Radio Norfolk Midweek Gardener.
  • Raffle in aid of Norfolk Gardens Trust.

Bill LeGrice said: "Our first rose festival is going to be a wonderfully colourful occasion. It will be great opportunity for visitors to talk to experienced rosarians in a relaxed environment and pick up lots of rose tips."

Liz Barnes, LeGrice festival organiser said: "The festival will be a superb showcase for our roses. I hope that lots of Norfolk residents and visitors to the county come along and enjoy the spectacular displays."
